Welcome to Daybreak Textiles, home of fiber artist Natalie Mouw.

Artist Statement
My work is rooted in fiber and textile traditions, with an emphasis on cloth as both material and language. I work primarily with my own fabrics, using color, pattern, and surface to explore the expressive potential of textiles. Each piece begins as a blank canvas, allowing process, chance, and repetition to play an essential role in the final work.
I print and manipulate textiles using a variety of techniques, incorporating shibori methods alongside layered surface design processes. These techniques create complex visual textures that draws the viewer in for a closer look. Through folding, binding, printing, and dyeing, the fabric records its own making, revealing subtle variations and marks that cannot be replicated mechanically.
My practice balances intention with experimentation. While I often begin with a conceptual or visual framework, the physical interaction with the material guides the work forward. I am interested in the dialogue between control and unpredictability. By drawing from traditional textile practices while reinterpreting them through contemporary processes, I aim to honor the history of fiber arts and expand their presence within fine art spaces, inviting careful attention to an awareness of time, labor, and touch.
